The worktop is the surface you touch every day. It is templated once the cabinets are fixed, so the joints fall right and the cut-outs match the sink and hob to the millimetre.

Good to know
Solid wood is oiled and needs it again once or twice a year. Quartz and ceramic need nothing more than a damp cloth, but a hot pan straight from the hob is still best put on a trivet.
